Balance and Discipline -- September 23, 2011

Good morning!  I hope y'all have had a good and productive week.  My week hasn't been too bad overall.  I feel like I got quite a bit accomplished the first part of the week.  Yesterday, on the other hand, was definitely not a productive day.  Gracie woke up with a fever and I didn't feel too well myself, so we stayed home and laid low.  I managed to get the dishwasher loaded and ran it and picked up the house (of all the toys, books, and various toddler paraphernalia laying about) before putting Gracie to bed for the night.

I started something a little new this week.  I made up a Routines Chart to use.  Here it is on my dryer which is in my kitchen.

In the first column, I have my daily tasks designated M for Morning, D for During the Day, and E for Evening.  In the middle, I have my Weekly tasks with a few marked for the specific days I like to do them.  The last column has monthly tasks and Miscellaneous Tasks which are ongoing (never-ending) tasks that I would like to do one a day or so.  I have it in a plastic page protector and I use a dry erase marker to mark off the tasks as I get them done.  This picture was taken on Monday, so there's not too much accomplished.  Actually, there's not too much more accomplished now.  I didn't even look at it today.

A few explanations:

Supper Prep is gathering together what I need to make supper.  I put anything that is not perishable on the counter along with any bowls or skillets or other gadgets that I need.  If I'm able to, I will chop up stuff and keep them in the fridge.  It all depends on Gracie and how clingy she is or if she's taking a nap.

Hot Spots is a Flylady term that means a place where clutter builds up such as the dining room table, the end tables in the living room, and my desk.  I try to clear those off, putting things back where they belong.  They don't always get totally cleared off because for some things I just do not have any other place to put them.

Kelly's Daily Mission is another Flylady term. She gives a daily mission in the specific zone for the week.  For example, this week's zone is the Master Bedroom.  So far, she's had me clear off the top of my dresser, the nightstand (which I don't even have), and put away stuff laying around.  Our bedroom is probably the least cluttered room in the whole house.  I try to make the bed every day because I think that an unmade bed makes a room automatically look messy even if everything else is ok.  I didn't get the bed made today because Gracie and I laid in it several times today.  She likes to go "night night" in my bed -- not actually sleep, but lay down by me and play with her phone.

Photo Challenge is just a reminder to me to practice my photography at some point in the day.  So far, I've been able to take pictures every day, even if it's just for 5 minutes.

Change Out Toys is a reminder to rotate Gracie's toys.  I have her toys separated into five boxes that I like to rotate.  It helps to cut down on a lot of stuff strowed throughout the house.  (Yes, strowed is a word, Mr. Automatic Spellchecker. He must be a Yankee.)  Secondly, it helps keep things new and different for Gracie each week.  Not that I change them out EVERY week, but it does help.

Rudolph Day happens on the 25th of each month.  This day is supposed to be a day that I do SOMETHING to get ready for Christmas whether it be work on a Christmas craft, gather up recipes, or plan activities or something.  I haven't done it in months, but I still want to.

I think everything else is self-explanatory.  If not, feel free to ask.

That's about all for this week.  Tell me how you're faring down in the Linky Thingy below.
