As Seen on Pinterest: Green Onions

I don't know about you, but I can't stand it when a recipe calls for some green onion, and I have to buy a big ole' bag of them because that's all Walmart carries.  Usually the rest of the green onions go bad because I just do not use them that often.

I read a couple of tips on Pinterest to help with this problem.

The first tip is a great way to save leftover green onions.  Chop them up and put them in a water bottle.  Put the bottle in the freezer, and when you need more green onion, shake them out!

The second tip is a great way to grow more green onion.  Take the white root part that you chop off and put it in a glass of water.  Put the glass in a sunny window and watch it grow!

I have already chopped up my remaining green onion and put it in a water bottle for the freezer.  I also put the root ends in a small glass of water.  I don't really have a sunny window, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do.  It's not yet freezing weather, so I could put it on the back porch.  I'm trying to think of a way to make a small homemade greenhouse for this purpose.  I'll let y'all know how it all turns out!

If you are on Pinterest, leave a link to your page so I can check out your pins and follow you.  If you want to follow me, there's a link on the sidebar to the right.

UPDATE:  Here is a picture of my green onions about a week later.  I had them out on the back porch and brought them in tonight since it's supposed to freeze.

I can't believe how much they've grown in just one week!  Looks like this is a keeper technique!
